@MTV’s – #VMAs Ratings Drop 50 Percent From Last Years

MTV’s Video Music Awards usually attracts plenty of viewers, beating out the competition across the table. But Thursday night’s telecast of the awards show took a huge hit with about 6.1 million viewers tuning in. The awards show only received a 5.3 rating from its 12-34 demographic.

Last year, the VMAs drew 12.4 million viewers. There are some things to consider are the circumstances involving the VMAs’ lower turnout. It was moved from Sunday to Thursday that put it in direct conflict with President Barack Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention. Two days before the show aired, it was also pushed up to 8 p.m. to avoid any problems with the DNC.

Although the network planned accordingly, the VMAs have seen a significant drop in viewership year after year. Still, it brought plenty of entertaining moments for us to look back on.
